Made with a starch-based biopolymer and flax straw "waste" (shive) for added strength; material is free from BPA, lead, cadmium, nickel, soy and phthalates. Flax shive is an annually renewable byproduct of the flax oilseed harvest in Canada that's typically burned down at the end of each season.
Using this waste byproduct gives the case added strength and natural shock absorption, while providing local farmers with an additional source of revenue. Low-impact manufacturing process produces fewer greenhouse gas emissions than traditional plastic manufacturing. Product meets U.S. (ASTM D6400-04) and EU (EN 13432) standards for composting in an industrial facility or a backyard compost—but not in your pocket.
